After two albums as Manufacture De Orion on Tom Val Records in 2020, this underground lo-fi spiritual jazz entity reborned as Orion Music Workshop on his new album Atmosôn.
This new album, made of four intense and elevating songs, was released in very limited edition vinyl of 20 copies on the small private press label Les Disques Omnison and distributed by Tom Val Records.
Future cult or forever underground ?
English translation :
«To escape, to get lost, to take detours, this is the path offered here by the Orion Music Workshop, unipersonal entity headed by Tom Val. Adventurous ears had already come across his name via his nice self-produced cassettes. A cave of the imagination, a vague universe where adventure reigns, where the dadaism spirit comes to nest. Between the subtle caresses, raw collages or percussions playing ancestral themes, this noble musical do-it-yourself emerges from a desire to go beyond the machine. This young man of his time knew that modernity had to be kept at a distance and only used the computer as a last tool. To enjoy modern possibilities but to privilege the soul of things, of the first intentions, of the first founding gesture. The sonic youth digs into the past and is passionate about the sound craftsman seeking the unheard of, for the improvisation dear to the pioneers of the free jazz and avant-garde. The (outsider) art of our Man Orchestra on this first album is the technique of re-recording, which allows us here to hear a real band. Far from the gleaming computers, a gang of three or four moonstrucked people exchange flutes, bird calls, gongs and Tibetan bowls depending on their mood. These dreamers of another time have gone far away on Atmosôn, the map seems to indicate the Middle East but the next note already takes you to Asia Minor. The landmarks are blurred, the ceremony wants to be total, the trip too. Let us invoke the spirit of William S. Burroughs, of the Jajouka musicians to describe this discographic baptism. The agapes seem to take place on a lost island where the spirit of Ghédalia Tazartès would play with Pascal Comelade in the depths of Oceania. But it’s still much more than that.»
